Hoco speech and thought disorder

Postby gw » 08/19/07 at 14:53:11

From the Wikipedia entry for "Thought disorder (highlighting is mine):
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thought_disorder
In psychiatry, thought disorder or formal thought disorder is a term used to describe a pattern of disordered language use that is presumed to reflect disordered thinking. It is usually considered a symptom of psychotic mental illness, although it occasionally appears in other conditions.

It describes a persistent underlying disturbance to conscious thought and is classified largely by its effects on speech and writing. Affected persons may show pressure of speech (speaking incessantly and quickly), derailment or flight of ideas (switching topic mid-sentence or inappropriately), thought blocking, rhyming, punning, or 'word salad' when individual words may be intact but speech is incoherent.

Thus, I thought it worth preserving some recent hocolocution:

So is Robert Shiller "loco" for owning 60% stocks, hocus?

Hooboo gooboo locca mocca.

Geenra sordum trinka nebulot?

Cornseeni vu!

Rob

So why does Robert Shiller own 60% stocks, hocus?

I don k-now! bow dough anseee!

Kinn I be borrows de Benda baggo rocko wha!

Even leaving those particularly fine recent nuggets aside, I defy anyone to tell me he does not exhibit these on a more or less constant basis:

* (speaking incessantly and quickly),

* derailment or flight of ideas (switching topic mid-sentence or inappropriately),

* thought blocking,

* rhyming, punning, or 'word salad' when individual words may be intact but speech is incoherent.

He is a nutter.

In response to reasonable questions, he  posts gibberish.   When asked for an explanation, he prefers to let his weirdness stand rather that present a simple explanation.

On his own blog, he posts long diatribes filled with toilet references that will have only one effect:  drive away readers.

He's consistently self-destructive.

And when it looks like he may actually be accumulating a few readers/commenters (assuming they are real), he shuts down for 2 months and leaves it on full moderate so they can't even talk amongst themselves.

He's consistently self-destructive.

Who was it that said "Never attribute to spite that which is otherwise explainable by stupidity"?

True enough, especially after reading this nugget from the time capsule in it's entirety!

I went back and read through the thread that you linked to, DRiP Guy, and almost blew ice tea out my nose.  It's a wonderful amalgam of stupidity, transparent lies, delusions, and pomposity (thank you, JWR).   A genuine hoot. :lol:

Glad there's a SeWeR.

I take strong objection to your assertions, Norbert Schlenker.
