I am always suspicious of index fund claims. They strike me as sorting everything after the fact. They suppress the idea that an active fund manager might shift holdings and allocations over time. They gloss over the objective of a fund, which might include downside protection.

They also gloss over the failings of mutual funds as investments: managers have to focus on the short term to hold their jobs.

Have fun.

One doesn't NEED a fund manager to enjoy the benefit of index funds. So there go all your arguments about 'index fund claims' -- the only thing the S&P index, or other pa ssive indexes claim is for the fund to closely model the underlying market they represent. Now, how about a nice steaming cup of:

Classic stuff from JWR.  The old gasbag makes all sorts of claims why index funds shouldn't perform better than actively managed funds, ignoring the fact that the data CLEARLY shows that they do.

Don't confuse him with facts; he's already made up his mind.  The perfect mentor for Bennett.
