Development could unleash huge potential
A report arguing that four of the biggest emerging markets are likely to dominate the world economy in the years ahead has attracted much attention. If only such a scenario could come about.
The study by Goldman Sachs, an investment bank, focuses on the BRICs: Brazil, Russia, India and China. It argues that, on realistic assumptions, their collective economic weight could easily exceed that of the world's current six largest economies by 2050. By 2041 China looks set to overtake America as the world's biggest economy.
