MSCI Hedge Invest Index launched

Post by peteyperson »

The MSCI® Hedge Invest Index consists of a diverse sample of hedge funds that represent a broad range of hedge fund strategies and have weekly liquidity. The index may be licensed for the creation of index linked financial products. As of October 7, 2003, the index contained 74 funds in 11 investment processes. The number of funds in the index is expected to increase over time.

Hedge fund index fund anyone?

The whole concept strikes me as bizarre. Are hedge funds an asset class?

Greetings all. Look at this quote:
As of October 7, 2003, the index contained 74 funds in 11 investment processes

So, as of this coming Tuesday, right? They're talking about the future, while using past tense. :?::?::?

Hedge funds bizarre? Apparently my pension plan doesn't believe so. We received word early this year they were seeking to invest about a billion or so spread over several diferent hedge funds. So far, they've invested about 600 million with two separate funds. I'm not as miffed as when I initially found out, as the plan's total assets were around 31 billion. I think I'll keep them out of my own personal portfolio tho.

Well it's really just a fund of funds hedge fund. Okay if you like that sort of thing. Hedge funds as it turns out are a big thing for high net worth individuals in the US. Less so internationally but it is catching on. This according to Merrill Lynch's World Wealth Report.
