Jwr sums up his thoughts about retirement investing. Nice post, nothing loony at all.

I am still a little unclear on the 50-80% stock allocation. Especially if this would be fixed at the beginning of retiremtn based on current conditions or if it would be adjusted as circumstances change.

I was looking for "insights" at tmf and came across a very good jwr1945 thread:

I am still a little unclear on the 50-80% stock allocation.

This is for the existing studies, especially the Retire Early Safe Withdrawal Rate Study. A fixed allocation was selected at the start. It was maintained through annual re-balancing. It was never changed.

The percentage that is reported as optimal has varied. IIRC, its range has been bounded by 50% and 80%.

Have fun.

ah, I see. I was confused with the 50% 80% switching posts, thinking that this range was recommended.
