hocus prevails

hocus is prevailing at the Motley Fool even though few may realize it. If you recall, hocus had requested...even begged...to have just one on-topic thread per month without disruption. Thanks to galagan, that is now happening. But because of galagan's skill, he is drawing in several who would normally consider themselves to be part of the opposition.

IMHO, galagan has a genuine interest in on-topic issues related to FIRE. He has established himself as a moderator by volunteering when intercst and telegraph refused to participate.

Recently, hocus has identified his nine major complaints. Two have been taken off the table. I have been able to support hocus's first assertion sufficiently...(I did have help)...and I have identified BenSolar as the expert about over-valuations and allocations. galagan has solicited his comments and BenSolar has agreed to provide some.

BenSolar has discretion as to when he will provide his comments. galagan has changed to an interview format because the opposition was unwilling to show...and IMHO with very good reason. BenSolar may choose to comment on the previously existing thread or he may choose to respond in the new interview format.

All that we have to do is let galagan set the rules and control the discussion. I am confident in the validity of our positions. Even better, if someone can show us that we are wrong, we will welcome it and we will correct our error.

Have fun.

John R.

P.S. Y'all might let hocus in on what is going on.
P.P.S. The two complaints that were taken off the table are valid. They were removed simply because they are very easy to verify.

Hi JWR,

I've been slow to respond thus far, but I'm still thinking about it. I hope to set aside a couple of hours tomorrow ...

I'll be using liberal doses of quotes and links to work done on this board by the real experts ...

Have Fun,
Ben

JWR1945:

I "prevailed" in the sense in which you use the word here a long time ago. I expect to "prevail" in a much more expansive sense of the word in days to come.

It would ruin the trick ending if I were to tell you what is written on the final page. But, as with all well-structured dramas, there are a good number of clues placed within the narrative for the edification of the careful reader. Whoever comes closest to guessing right before it becomes too obvious to be a challenge will be awarded the title "Town Prophet" in the new administration.

Nothing happens for a long time. Then everything all at once.

Have Fun

Exactly. So long as it is while taking care of the serious business side of things and not instead of.

I refuse to guess. I have followed your posts too closely. I can think of two possible specifics and I have a vague idea of what

means.

If I am anywhere close to being right, it will be spectacular.

Have fun.

Quite a buildup. The suspense is killing me.

I am not willing to identify my two specific possibilities. But I will mention my vague notion because it makes sense regardless. All of these details have been known for quite a while. These details are not new. Whether they tie into the others is not clear. They should.

We know that hocus is writing a book. We know that he is a prominent poster at the Motley Fool. We know that hocus has mentioned future publicity tours and interviews on radio talk shows to sell his book. We know that the Motley Fool founders have their own radio program. We know that it would be in their best interest to mention hocus's book since they would be promoting their own business at the same time. Some of us are also aware that hocus is physically located close enough to the Washington DC area to travel there without undue hardship. (IIRC, the Motley Fool is in Alexandria, VA and National Public Radio is in the Washington DC area. hocus is in the general vicinity in the same sense that FMO is in the vicinity. He is close enough. He is not in California or Michigan.)

Therefore, I think that it is likely that the Motley Fool will play a part at some time. But whether it is all at a single time or at two or even more, I do not know.

Have fun.

We know that hocus is writing a book....

This book has the potential of becoming the most commented-upon unpublished manuscript since Truman Capote's "Unanswered Prayers."

I'll tell you one thing, after all this fuss, it had better be long.

I mean, it had better be good.

I always get those two mixed up!
