Just my opinion.

Greetings NFBers :)

I've seen kindergartners behave better than many of the folks around here have recently. It's no fun spending all my time dealing with all these petty squabbles. I logged on this morning looking forward to working on raddrs new section which is almost done. But all I've done for the past two hours is deal with crap. So give me a break and knock this crap off. It is possible to post something constructive. I've seen it happen. Give it a try. :D

Just my opinion.

With respect, it still seems to me that hocus's behaviour is generally tolerated whereas responding to such behaviour by others is not.

I know that you have a thankless task - but that's my opinion.

Greetings Ken :)

It may look that way but believe me when I say it's not. I will treat everyone equally. And that means everyone. The difference you may be noticing is in the language used in some of these posts. You can disagree with someone without insulting their intelligence and calling them names.

Everyone here deserves to be treated with respect whether they are dead wrong or not. (That includes your fearless leader!) Everyone here deserves the right to state their opinion, dead wrong or not. Just do it with civility.

I'll do the best I can. It's obvious that everyone will not be happy with that. But I've found most will be.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

At the NFB board ataloss queried whether nfb rules covered the following
Though technically different from flaming, which is an unmistakable direct personal attack, trolls often resort to innuendo or misdirection in the pursuit of their objective, which is to create controversy for its own sake, discredit those with whom they disagree, or sabotage discussion by creating an intimidating atmosphere.

ES's response was
Folks, when you learn how to read minds and can tell me with 100% certainty you know what someone else is thinking when they post then the above statment might mean something. Otherwise IMO it's crap and I have better things to do.

I have indicated to ES offline that although some action has been taken over the recent situation I am disappointed that it has not sufficiently addressed the root of the problem. Specifically, it would appear that ES is not prepared to ackowledge that both derogatory remarks and troll-like behaviour had occurred and that both would not be tolerated in the future. In that case it would appear to me that there is a high probability of troll-like behaviour reoccurring as I have seen happen three times in the last 6 months or so. I have a strong aversion to similar such anti-social, boorish behaviour in other aspects of my life and, as a matter of principle, refuse to ignore or excuse it and have no wish to be associated with it - if it is generally "tolerated" with a shrug-of-the-shoulders, can't-do-much-about-it, pretend-it's-not-there attitude or it's excused because the instigator "can't-help-it" then I walk away as quickly as possible - and internet boards especially so.

ES has put a considerable amount of effort into NFB and I respect his opinions on how he wishes to administer the boards. Equally, I'm sure, he respects my strongly held opinion on this issue and will respect my request to delete my name from the list of members when I shortly ask him to do so in a pm.

I would hate to see you go. This is the kind of thing that really gives trolls a charge - driving people away from a message board. Divide-conquer-destroy.

I second karma's thoughts. It galls me to see a good poster like Ken consider leaving because of the disruptive influence of another.

My response to this was the troll issue in this case is a "gray area" and I am not 100% convinced. Therefore I give the posters, whoever they may be, the benefit of doubt.

I expressed my sorrow that Ken has decided to leave. However I do believe the situation is now under control. The one point I need to make is that any of our board members opinions gets a wide latitude from me. Unless I'm 100% convinced of wrong doing no action will be taken. I'm not a politician and it's not my job to dig through posts and find hidden meanings. I'll leave that up to you folks.

I also would view it as unfortunate if KenM elected to stop posting here. And I would like to see ataloss and wanderer resume posting here.
