Has anyone here had any experience of the new US Vanguard Viper shares? Do they trade like regular US ETFs? How do the fee side of things work out?

Yes, I own shares of VTI. They trade just like any other ETF on the US Amex. The ER is 15 bp which is actually 5 bp lower than on the open-end VTSMX mutual fund. With Vanguard soon coming out with new ETFs that track US market segments, as well as Europe, Asia/Pacific and Emerging Markets, there's no longer any reason why a non-US resident would have to deal with Vanguard Europe in Ireland.

As for European versions of Vanguard ETFs, presumably these would be identical to the Amex-traded shares, except that they'd trade on European exchanges and be priced in local currency.

Well yes, theoretically. They're only considering it at the moment according to their own press.

I find it amazing that Vanguard haven't gone into the UK market for small investors already. Major oversight given the generally high cost of investing. "Rip-off Britain" would at least get a little less so.
