For Jim Walter and anyone with the same question: I will be spending my time here. Is there anyway to help you? There should come a day, soon, when anyone searching at google.com on terms like early retirement or financial independence or index funds or safe withdrawal rates will find nofeeboards.co...

My projections are 4.35% and 4.74% real growth overall. This is will support a withdrawal rate of 4% provided that you can overcome the problem of volatility. These numbers are 1.76% and 2.15% below the historical 6.5%. Thanks for the analysis. Your numbers come out more generous than my assumption...

Hi, ES :) It would be nice to get on Google though. Yesterday I inserted a link from my personal page to NFB. My ISP, Earthlink, supports that page for me at no additional cost, and google indexes it. Few people ever view my page, but that link cannot hurt. Now I will watch to see if google updates...

For January we averaged just under 20,000 hits per day. Do you know how people find NFB? Is it solely word of mouth and messages at TMF pointing the way to this useful alternative? As nearly as I can tell, google.com does not index NFB. Is there a way to get google to send its automatic indexing so...

Glad to see you here, 1HF. I remember enjoying your posts at that other place. Please post here anything you feel like repeating or updating from those posts. I don't have access there. I don't recall what exchanges you and I had there, only that I enjoyed them. As the others have said, welcome to t...

You did provide a possibly significant clue, JWR1945. You suggested that retirees behave differently than non-retirees in their stock acquisition behavior. That's a possible explanation of the puzzle. I suggest also that the behavior of American investors differs from that of other investors in buy...

for ataloss: Thanks for your post. My purpose in confessing my degrees and work experience was to alert people to any tendency on my part to overemphasize mathematics. I don't want to be the guy whose only tool is a hammer and who therefore sees every problem as a nail. There are some important ques...

Well said. I too felt that I had a lot to contribute, particularly in the area of SWRs. Thank you. I wanted to contribute in the area of applying math to some decisions in personal financial planning. My experience has been that this analysis helped me be calm as I saw my salaried days approaching ...

Do you recall when TMF changed the "default" setting on "Best of Boards" to exclude all non-stock boards? We were blocked from changing the default setting, on a personal basis, back to what we preferred. On August 2, 2001, Johnny Billions posted a comment on this abuse of TMF me...

I said all of this over at TMF, but I repeat myself for the record here. I thought I had more to teach than to learn on the subject of early retirement at TMF. This is not entirely immodest since I retired in 1993 at age 53, never held an especially well-paid job before retiring, and have stayed hap...

Are the fools raising rates?

From what you say, it appears that the (self-styled) Fools are raising their rates. I didn't know that. I spend no time over there since they introduced their charges. How much will their total revenues drop when new higher fees kick in and participants scatter?
