Hi Oliver,

I've seriously thought about quitting work in early 2008, taking the year off, and selling one of my rentals. I could then realize the gain tax-free (minus recapture) and either buy another property or start a bond ladder.

But that's a bit different to advising my daughters that they should save half their income or whatever and live on a budget of $20,000 for the next 20 years in the vague hope that they may be able to stop work in their 40's. As might have been said in old pop songs, in your 20's life is for living...
