Hi Oliver,
I've seriously thought about quitting work in early 2008, taking the year off, and selling one of my rentals. I could then realize the gain tax-free (minus recapture) and either buy another property or start a bond ladder.

But that's a bit different to advising my daughters that they should save half their income or whatever and live on a budget of $20,000 for the next 20 years in the vague hope that they may be able to stop work in their 40's.
